Meet David “Coach Edwards” Edwards — The Athlete Architect
David Edwards has spent more than two decades coaching and developing youth athletes in basketball, track & field, and strength & conditioning. He is a Licensed Physical Therapist Assistant, Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (NSCA-CSCS), USA Track & Field Level 1 Coach, USA Weightlifting Level 1 Coach, and Sportsmetrics Certified Instructor—a rare combination of sports medicine knowledge and performance training expertise.
His coaching journey began at his alma mater, where he worked alongside his father, a long-time head track coach. Together, they guided the 2000 Class A Division 1 State Champion 800m relay team and state runner-up 400m relay team. That experience shaped his belief that the best athletes are built through strong fundamentals, intelligent training, and injury prevention.
Through the Developing Young Athletes (DYA) Network, David helps parents, coaches, and athletes access research-based training systems, injury prevention strategies, and mindset development tools. His approach blends on-field coaching with sports science, making performance gains measurable and sustainable.
Outside of athletics, David’s background in business ownership, process engineering, and leadership—including running a Tier 1 automotive manufacturing company—has influenced the way he designs structured, repeatable systems for athlete development.
David’s work is grounded in one goal: helping young athletes reach their potential safely and effectively, so they can enjoy both success in competition and a lifetime of healthy movement.

Eliana Edwards—known to athletes and parents as Coach El—grew up immersed in sports and performance training, inspired by her father, David “Coach Edwards” Edwards, founder of the DYA Network. That early exposure fueled a lifelong passion for strength training, athletic performance, and mentoring young athletes.
A recent graduate of Saginaw Valley State University with a Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science, Coach El has already gained valuable hands-on experience at the highest levels of sport. She completed a strength and conditioning internship with Michigan State University Athletics, working alongside collegiate performance coaches to train NCAA athletes across multiple sports. She is currently preparing to take the Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) exam through the NSCA, furthering her professional credentials in the field.
Her own athletic career includes success as a multi-sport high school athlete—competing in basketball, cross country, and track & field, where she followed in her father’s footsteps by excelling in hurdles. She also served as an Assistant Coach for a middle school boys’ track team, where her coaching helped a first-time athlete qualify for the highly competitive Oakland County Middle School Track Meet.
Today, as an Athlete Development Specialist with the DYA Network, Coach El combines her academic knowledge, practical coaching experience, and personal athletic journey to help young athletes build strength, develop proper technique, and grow in confidence. Whether she’s teaching Olympic lifts, refining movement skills, or guiding athletes through performance drills, she brings energy, precision, and a deep commitment to each athlete’s success.
